ABOUT US

Denver Frontrunners is a running and walking club for the GLBT community and their friends. Just one of the many International Front Runners clubs established throughout the world. Please join us for our weekly run/walks. Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome.

Our objectives are to:

  • Promote amateur sports, exercise and recreation
  • Encourage and assist in members' pursuit of individual running/walking goals
  • Participate in race/sports events
  • Promote camaraderie among gay and lesbian runners and walkers and the community

Come out and join us for our weekly fun runs/walks. We also host and participate in numerous social and athletic events.

Although the majority of our members are male, we are not exclusively male, gay, white, fast, or even runners. Membership is open to all persons without regard to ability, ethnicity, gender, status, or sexual orientation. Currently we do not have any dues structure so no one is required to be a member to join us for our runs/walks. We often solicit donations or do fundraisers to offset costs for our membership and insurance with the RRCA, and other costs associated with operating the club such as web hosting fees, etc.

Denver Frontrunners is club 1156 with the Road Runners Club of America and is IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt under the RRCA's group exemption. We have elected officers and hold general membership meeting open to the membership and other interested parties where we plan upcoming activities and discuss issues relevant to the club and its purposes. Information on the location can be obtained from any one of our officers or at our weekly runs. Meeting notices are also sent to members by email.

WHEN WE RUN

Saturday Morning Walk/Run

Denver Frontrunners meets every Saturday morning at 9:15 am (gay time), in front of the Moore Elementary school at 9th Avenue, between Downing and Corona Streets, across the street from the King Soopers market. Walkers tour the Cheesman Park area, catching views of the Front Range. For the longest run (6 miles), we head to Washington Park via the Marion Street Parkway, circle the park and return on the same path - click here for map. We all meet for food and fun at a local spot afterwards. Please join us!!

Thursday Evening Trail Runs

Some of our runners also meet regularly for Thursday evening trail runs in the Foothills (daylight permitting). The locations and times do vary. For more information please view our event calendar.  Come join us!

Sunday Walk/Run In Boulder

The Boulder runs continue every Sunday morning. The group meets Sunday mornings, between 9:00 and 9:15 in front of the Whole Foods at the Basemar Shopping Center, SE corner of S. Broadway and Baseline. This gives our friends in the Boulder area an opportunity to participate with our group on a weekly basis and our Denver Frontrunners another opportunity to run during the week. The Boulder Sunday run encompasses walking, running paths and a little bit of trail running of various distances. Emails will be sent to members on a weekly basis to detail the Boulder area locations.

FAQ

How do I get additional information?

We send out weekly email notices to those on our membership roster detailing our weekly runs and any other additional information which is important to our group.

When/Where do Denver Frontrunners meet?

We meet EVERY Saturday morning between 9:00 am and 9:15am in front of the Dora Moore Elementary school at 9th Avenue, between Downing and Corona Streets, across the street from the King Soopers market.

During Spring and Summer months, we meet on Thursday evenings. Locations, course, distances and times vary each week. Emails are sent to members on a weekly basis to detail the weekly trail run locations. The trail runs are usually of various skill levels.

Note: When the weather is cold and snowy, we will still have runners and walkers (we call them die-hards that will show up and run). The crowd does get much smaller during the winter months, but we all huddle together to keep warm and we often start before our designated 9:15 am start on those days.

Note: If a major holiday falls on one of our meeting dates, we still we have some members that will show up to run and walk.

Do I have to be a fast runner to participate?

No, we welcome people of all abilities. Our weekly course is out and back using city streets and park trails after reaching Washington Park (for longer runs) and Cheeseman Park (for shorter runs and walkers). Everyone is free to turn around at any point they wish to. Please do not feel like you have to train before you show up for a run; part of the reason we're here is so we can make it easier for people to get into an exercise routine with others.

Can I bring my dog to run?

We have a few members who bring along their dogs for our weekly runs/walks. We welcome others who wish to bring their dogs to do so.

Is it just a running/walking club?

No! In addition to our regular dining out after our runs during the week, the club also participates in a number of athletic and social events throughout the year. You can check out our events page to see a sample of some of the events and activities we engage in.

How do I join?

Please note we do not ask for membership dues to participate with us. Most of our general operating expenses such as our website, postage, PO Box fees, insurance, etc., are offset through our twice annual fundraising beer pouring events held at The Wrangler. Please check out the contact us page to get on our email list so you can get weekly updates or just show up at one of our weekly Saturday or Sunday runs.
